About

Northern Lights was created from a need to name a group of songs I wrote and recorded in early 1995. It has, in the almost ten years since, become a collective term referring to all material written and recorded by myself. I do not perform live and do not sing, but I am guilty of all guitars, bass, keyboards and other sound effects. Drums on that first album were performed by a close friend, Shane Walton, and all those early 4-track recordings were made in the basement of a house in the woods of New Hampshire. Inspiration for the music came from various sources, the most important of which, is my appreciation of nature and the rare phenomenon commonly referred to as the "northern lights".

After a long creative dry spell combined with having no access to instruments / recording facilities (read: college), a second 'album' was finished in 2000 with a more polished sound and different ideas. It's mostly acoustic, and I decided to re-record my original title track "Northern Lights", with Shane on the drums again, as a test of my abilities and some new recording processes. The resulting sound was great, and the album has even more variety from song to song, including a dark techno piece and an acoustic rendition of Canon in D.
